DIRCO supports terror regime once again
South Africa’s expression of concern and condolences for the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran serves once again to show their decision to always side with dictators, terror organisations and human-rights abusers. DIRCO supported the Assad regime in Syria, Muammar Gaddafi in Libya, Omar Hassan Ahmad al-Bashir in Sudan, Sadam Hussein in Iraq, Hamas in Gaza and now Ali Hosseini Khamenei in Iran. All these dictators have a strong history of oppressing their own people and exporting terror.
In castigating Israel and exonerating Iran, the South African government has failed to provide any context for Israel’s strikes against Iran, including the fact that Iran, and its proxies such as the Houthis in Yemen and Hezbollah in Lebanon, have specifically targeted civilians in Israel, and Jews globally.
Their typical knee jerk statement apportioning all blame on the Jewish State fails to acknowledge that Israeli strikes carefully targeted military leadership and installations, while Iran is, through the hundreds of missiles they are launching, are specifically targeting civilians. Tel Aviv and Haifa have had direct hits, that have resulted in the death of Jewish, Muslim and Christian civilians, including children. There are countless more injured.
Our government’s lack of regard for Jewish life, is evident from its refusal to pressurise Hamas to release their hostages, in spite of its close relationship with Hamas, and is confirmed by their inability to condemn Iranian strikes on civilians in Israel.
We call on the South African government to stop its support for global terror and to use its unique position in being a broker for peace in a region that is changing fast.
