Communication on Opening of Schools

Dear Community Members We hope and pray for a successful and inspiring year for our Jewish Community. Unfortunately, we find ourselves once again approaching the year with trepidation. The COVID pandemic still remains at the forefront of our minds and determines our decision making. The second wave has swept through South Africa, and affects us all. Many of our schools have taken the decision to delay the start of the school year with the aim of containing the spread of the virus. This has been done with the objective of our children being able to return in person. The educational and emotional benefits of face-to-face learning are immense and should be something our community prioritises. We therefore call upon all members of the Jewish community to support our schools by meticulously adhering to the recommended COVID-19 protocols. In the lead up to the opening of schools we request that you refrain from hosting or attending parties, arranging play dates or engaging in any social gatherings. We already know that by conscientiously wearing masks and maintaining physical distance we are able to save lives and prevent further infections. Not adhering to these requirements is irresponsible and has the potential to undermine the successful start to the 2021 academic year. Let us unite as a community for the sake of our students and demonstrate once again that we are a community that cares for one another, so that we can give our children the school year they rightly deserve.
