African Jewish Congress launches ‘Jews of Namibia’

On Tuesday, the long-awaited launch of the book The Jews of South West Africa Namibia – A History took place in Cape Town under the auspices of the African Jewish Congress (AJC). Participants included AJC President Ann Harris and CEO Rabbi Moshe Silberhaft (who also heads up the SAJBD Country Communities Department). Associate Director David Saks, one of the co-authors, was keynote speaker. The AJC was established, largely on the initiative of the SAJBD, in the early 1990s to act as a representative body for the Jewish communities of Sub-Saharan African countries. It operates within the administrative structure of the SAJBD, and provides a range of services to assist in the continuation of Jewish life in the affiliate countries.
