Clarification regarding the renaming of Sandton Drive

There has been much confusion, following last week's failed motion to rescind the renaming of Sandton Drive by the Johannesburg City Council. We would like to clarify as follows: There remains no decision to change the name at this time, and the status remains as per our statement issued on this matter on 29 November 2024:

"The outcome appears to reflect a willingness by the political parties in the City of Johannesburg to explore alternate solutions to the renaming of Sandton Drive and we await further details in this regard. The SAJBD is cautiously optimistic that a way forward will be found that will move away from the polarizing name change that has been pushed by certain parties over the past 7 years.

We are hopeful that a less divisive way forward will be found ... that will put this unfortunate situation behind us so that the residents and businesses in Johannesburg can focus on the welfare of our city."

We will continue to work with closely with our friends in the Johannesburg City Council to find a solution that will unite and not divide.
