Our comment regarding statements by Julius Malema

Our comment regarding statements by Julius Malema in Pretoria on 24 October.

Mr Malema prides himself on causing division among fellow South Africans, using his trademark hateful rhetoric. He is a man full of hate.

Julius Malema has been remarkably quiet for the past 2 weeks but chose now to associate freedom fighters with rape, murder of babies and kidnapping. We differ with this interpretation as we have never seen any evidence to suggest that such tactics were used by South African freedom fighters.

Fortunately we have laws locally and internationally that prohibit incitement and threats to violence. We will keep all options open.

The South African Jewish Board of Deputies is appalled by the statement issued by the South African Institute of International Affairs (SAIIA), following the attack on Member of Parliament (MP) Emma Powell during their Cape Town event on South Africa’s G20 strategic goals last week. SAIIA’s statement acquiesced to the bullying and intimidation, blamed the victim, deflected responsibility, and sided with the perpetrators of this ambush against Powell.
