South Africans Rally Against Antisemitism and the Targeting of Jewish Owned Businesses; Celebrate strengthening ties between South Africa and Israel

South Africans from all walks of life gathered in today’s rallies against antisemtism and the targeting of Jewish-owned Businesses. The rallies, held in both Johannesburg (outside the Gauteng Legislature) and Cape Town (Parliament), protested the targeting of Jewish Businesses, specifically those known to be founded, owned or run by Jewish businessmen, which have been singled out by local hate group, BDS South Africa, as part of its hate-driven activities and the annual festival of hatred known as ‘Israeli Apartheid Week’.

Memoranda detailing a number of grievances were submitted to the National Parliament as well as the Gauteng Legislature; we are encouraged that both these institutions have committed themselves to addressing our grievances. The comments by the Chairperson of the Education Portfolio Committee at the Gauteng Provincial Legislature, Joe Mpisi, who accepted our memorandum on behalf of the Speaker, are worth noting. “It is our responsibility as government to ensure that everybody is treated equally in this country, and that everybody’s right is respected”, said Mpisi. We hope this message is upheld and respected by the Gauteng Provincial Legislature, the rest of the South African government and groups such as BDS.
