Rabbi David Shaw, member of the SAJBD and Rabbi of Sandton Shul, Wendy Kahn and Gabi Farber Cohen hosted a meaningful interfaith engagement, welcoming a group of seminarians from the Southern African Catholic Bishops’ Conference led by Bishop Graham Rose. The group, currently in their eighth year of formation for the priesthood within the Catholic Church, are spending a semester focusing on interreligious dialogue. As part of this programme, they chose to visit a synagogue to learn more about Judaism and the Jewish community.
The SAJBD, felt privileged to engage with this remarkable group of future faith leaders. The gathering was a testament to the immense value of interfaith engagement in our country and the important role it plays in fostering understanding, mutual respect, and unity.
Encounters like these remind us of the power of faith communities coming together in friendship and dialogue. Through meaningful engagement, we are able to deepen understanding and strengthen the shared values that unite us as South Africans.
