Victor Gordon OBM

We are deeply saddened to report the passing last night of Victor Gordon, a devoted and distinguished member of our community.

Victor was one of the guiding lights of Pretoria Jewry, serving the community in multiple capacities. He was President of the SAJBD – Pretoria Council for eight years as well as acting as vice-chairman for several years more. Other positions he held included serving on the Carmel School PTA, the Carmel School board and on the Jaffa Jewish aged home management committee. He was pivotal over many years in bringing interesting speakers, films and the like to Pretoria.

A man of many parts and considerable gifts, Victor was among other things an award-winning playwright whose works were performed both locally and internationally. His abilities as a writer made him an invaluable member of the Zionist Federation Media Team, with his eloquent defences of Israel frequently appearing in the media over more than a decade.

The SAJBD extends its sincerest condolences to the Gordon family, in particular to wife Shirley and children Jonathan and Lisa and grandchildren Amy and Tali. May his memory be for a blessing.
